After two years of serious deliberations and several brain storming sessions, the Jamat-e-Islami Hind backed first political party, 'Welfare Party of India', was launched here on Monday.

Despite the fact that the President, Mujtaba Farooque, of the newly launched party is also the secretary of Jamat-e-Islami Hind and the General Secretary is a Shoora member of the same, the Chief of the Jamat-e-Islami, Jalaluddin Umri said that this party is "not our baby".

“Jamat has no link with this party but have given permission its to certain members to join this party and the permission is only for this party and only to those who have sought permission with this regard,” Jalaluddin Umri told TSI.

Umri said that the present political system is totally rotten and the political parties are no more interested in the welfare of the people. “So if this party works for the welfare of the common people then it will be good for the country. With this think in mind we have given permission to our members to join this party”.

During the launching ceremony, General Secretary of the Welfare Party, Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas said the purpose of this new party is not to add another in the list of the 1200 registered political parties. “Present political parties have failed to fulfill the aspirations of the common people. Our target is to achieve Welfare state,” he said.

On question of funding he said; “We will collect funds. And already 19 members donated Rs 1.7 lakh on the very first day. We are not averse to donations from corporate houses if they come without any rider”.

Maintaining that political party was not an easy decision for Jamat, Chief, Jalaluddin Umri, said there were difference of opinion but the majority decision was instead of launching our own party we should allow our members to form a party with like minded people.
