Kolkata: The Welfare Party of India West Bengal convention asked the Mamata Banerjee government to implement the poll promises that were made to the electorate in general and especially to the Muslims.
Speakers at the convention reminded Mamata that it was the Muslims, who, while gracefully admitting that there were no communal violence during the long left front rule, but were not emancipated at all in socio-economic fields, educational and employment sectors, electorally bid farewell to the left and let the TMC- congress combination in the convention lamented that the new Chief Minister, who keeps the minority portfolio with her has not taken initiative to solve the long pending demands of the community and the promises made by the CM herself.
The convention held at Mahajatisadan Hall in Kolkata, in a resolution strongly criticised the state government for its decision to give more licenses to liquor outlets to raise revenue to fill the alleged cash-starved state left by the left front government.
It is ironical that it comes from such a ruling combination of Trinamool and Congress boasting to be inspired by Gandhian values and principles.
The convention expressed its deep regret over escalating political violence in the post-Mamata regime. It urged all parties to uphold democratic values and demanded the government to deal law breakers with iron hand.
The convention criticised the dubious and partisan standards followed by various political parties in identifying the BPL and Job Card beneficiaries and asked for full transparency so as to avoid complaints of bias and prejudice.
The 150-member state general council of the party representing already enrolled 14000 members elected Dr. Raeeesudeen as State President and 25- member State Working Committee. The State Working Committee elected Mihir Banerjee, Abul Rab Bin Ismail as vice-presidents, Abdul Aziz as General Secretary, Mohammed Jamaluddeen, Shahjahan, Mansa Sen, Shuma Dey as Secretaries and Nasir Ahmed as Treasurer.
